Victual channel 54 derived from UHF is called WFXG and is affiliated with Fox television licensed. Lockwood Broadcast Group-owned station and WFXG are based in the Lamkin section of Washington Road. The mailing address of the station is with Augusta and the location of the station’s transmitter in South Carolina of Beech Island. In July 1983 the Federal Communications Commission have received nine applications for a new Television station on channel 54. John Pezold the owner of Columbus-based station WXTX allowed to start construction of the station and eventually signed on in May 1991.
As WFXG start broadcasting, it immediately went for the affiliation of Fox. In the beginning, it was a low power channel and get approved in October 1989. Channel 26 which was later known as WAGT returned on air in 1974, this station was Augusta’s first commercial station with full power which was not aligned with three other big networks in the market. WFXG station was also working together with Prime-Time Entertainment Network between the 1993 to 1994 seasons. In May 1998 the station was sold to Retlaw Broadcasting and in 1999 Fisher Communications purchased WFXG along with all other stations owned by Retlaw Broadcasting.
