Holding construction permits and obtaining a license to operate this television on VHF frequency 12 was contested between three major media groups. Radio KRMD Inc and Shreveport Television Co filed the application to Federal Commission after lifting the ban on the order of relocation of any new Television in the area of Shreveport on June 27, 1952. Until July 10, Dallas-based attorneys Pat Coon and Billy B become the third applicants for the license of channel 12. KRMD CBS Radio and Shreveport Television submitted a joint application to the Federal Commination Commission for the approval of operating channel 12 as VHF on August 24.

The temporary Corporation granted the approval for construction permits on September 18 from the federal commission. TV suffix callsign was added in the name of the station during 1979. On January 1, 1954, the KSLA CBS starts its first transmission and become the second television station in the area of Shreveport and Texarkana market. KTBS TV channel 3 signed on as the second television station in the Shreveport area after KSLA suspended its affiliation with NBC on September 3, 1955. After a year station also added an affiliation with NTA Film Network.
KSLA having a 364-meter tower start increasing the density of station viewers from 177,100 to more than a million in November 1955 after activating its transmission facility on a permanent basis. This high-power tower was covering the area of Northwestern Louisiana and Northeast Texas along with Arkansas.
