KRIS-TV is an affiliated channel of NBC and Licensed to the community of Corpus Christi. VHF digital frequency 13 and Virtual frequency 6 technically holds the station. E.W. Scripps Company owned the station along with operations of CBS-affiliated KZTV Channel 10 under the shared services agreement with owner Sagamore Hill Broadcasting. KRIS office is located on Artesian Street in Corpus Christi and a digital transmitter is installed in the Robstown area. KRIS become the first VHF television network in the entire area on May 22, 1956, after taking over from the KZTV which was the former rival of KRIS. KRIS holds the NBC affiliation in its entire history and a sharing affiliation of ABC with KZTV until KIII was launched on May 4, 1964. After lifting the ban of self-imposed in 1948, KRIS-TV become the first in the United States which have liquor ads in its transmission.
In 1998, Cordillera Communications acquire the KRIS-TV. The owner of KZTV, Eagle Creek Broadcasting sold it to Cordillera Communications on July 23, 2008, and a shared service agreement was help with KRIS from Eagle Creek on August 24, 2009. The broadcast license was owned by Eagle Creek and assets of KZTV were acquired by Cordillera. Both groups decided to simulcast full coverage of KRIS and KZTV news teams on August 24, 2017. E.W. Scripps Company bought most of the stations along with KRIS and KZTV from Cordillera on May 1, 2019.
KRIS Local News Live:
KRIS become the sister station of KXXV for the area of Waco and Scripps got the market space in Corpus Christi. KRIS entered a national programming service on September 21, 1998, which was operated by The WB which handled the entire cable system in Corpus Christi. KRIS added a new digital subchannel for simulcasting KWDB without cable connections on September 18. Analog signal was suspended over VHF on June 12, 2009, and KRIS-TV start its full power transmission in the United States under the Federal Rules.
