KWES-TV is virtually based on VHF frequency 9 which is digitally operated and having an affiliation with NBC. Odessa region of Texas is the licensee of this channel and the broadcasting covering area is Permian Basin. Tegna Inc is the owner of KWES and television studios are based in Midland on West County Road 127. KWES transmitter was installed in the Notrees field of Texas. A full satellite station was operated by KWES until January 2019 which was KWAB channel 4 in the Big Spring area. Gray Television was keeping ownership of the channel after purchased of KWES-TV previously held by Raycom Media. CBS affiliated KOSA-TV channel 7 have the joint venture with KCWO which is operating its transmission in Midland and Odessa market as CW+.
On December 1, 1958, its operational service was started as KVKM-TV in the region of Monahan’s, Texas with the affiliation of ABC network. Tri-Cities Broadcasters was the original owner of having KVKM radio. In the beginning, was broadcasted by the 237-meter tower which was based between the Kermit and Monahan’s but KVKM-TV upgraded it to 330 meters on Caprock on February 1, 1963. On December 30, 1961, KVLF was operated as a semi-satellite television on channel 12 in the area of Alpine. Monahan’s, Odessa, and Midland area was covered with transmission as KMOM-TV instead of KWES under the ownership of Grayson Enterprises. Many other stations were added to the Grayson networks such as KKEA, KLBK-TV, and KTXS in the area of Abilene and Lubbock areas.

Two other satellite station was bought from Grayson which was KWAB and KAVE TV 6 in New Mexico region. License renewal from Grayson Enterprises was on hold after accusing of Transmitter log fabrication, Studio violations, and billing frauds, and failing in different technical tests. Distress sale was occurred by Grayson’s to the Permian Basin Corporation in 1980 while KTXS and KLBK television networks start their operation activities with Prima Inc. Gray Television and Raycom agreed to merge their network assets including KWES and KWAB on June 25, 2018.
