As an independent broadcasting channel start its operation activities on June 16, 1986, and was not officially FOX affiliated but some programs were on-aired during the early years of the network. In the market of Midland and Odessa, KPEJ become FOX affiliated in 1990. After the second affiliation with United Paramount Network, programming was broadcasting in 1998. UPN programming was moved to KOSA-TV in 2003 after the launching of the second digital subchannel. Fox 24 name was changed to Fox West Texas as branding in August 2007 and keep this name for promotional purposes.

KMID 2 which was ABC affiliated network and owned by Nexstar Broadcasting Group bought the KPEJ from Communications Corporation of America on April 24, 2013. KPEJ license rights were sold to Mission Broadcasting due to reason of FCC rules in which the network market should have eight remaining unique network owners after forming an alliance. On June 6, 2014, Marshall Broadcasting Group gets ownership of KPEJ-TV including Fox-affiliated sister station KMSS which was operated in the area of Shreveport, Louisiana. On June 12, 2009, KPEJ-TV moved its services from analog to digital by UHF channel 24 and launched as a full-power television station in the United States.
