WPEC CBS 12 News West Palm Beach, Fl

On January 1, 1955, WPEC on-aired its first transmission with having ABC affiliation as call letters of WEAT-TV. RKO General has acquired the station and broadcasting assets. The old facility of channel 12 was situated in West Palm Beach near South Congress Avenue. In 1956 RKO decided to sold-out WEAT-Tv to Rex Rand and later John D. MacArthur owner of Gardens Broadcasting owned the channel. In 1973 John D. MacArthur sold the WPEC CBS 12 to Photo Electronics which moved its offices and studios to the present location which is in Mangonia Park near Fairfield Drive. WEAT call signs were changed to WPEC which was taken from Photos Electronics Corporation. This company was owned by a local businessman Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. Hubbard Broadcasting was utilizing its previous call letters for the radio stations in designated areas.

WPEC Local News Live:

TVX broadcast group bought the channel WCIX on January 1, 1989, and transferred the association with the CBS network. In Fort Lauderdale and Broward County regions was having fewer grade signals for WCIX. Freedom Communication acquired the channel in 1996 and Boward county was gained by WPTV. A Spanish television channel was launched instead of terminating WPEC 24 hours weather broadcasting on April 8, 2009. It was again launched on digital channel 12.3 in 2009. Sinclair Broadcast Group bought the WPEC-TV and other channels including WTVX along with Four Point Media Group from Freedom Communications on November 2, 2011.
