WSFX Fox 26 News Wilmington NC

WSFX transmission can be watched by Charter Spectrum on channel 9 which is served in standard and high definition by cable connections. On September 24, 1984, the channel’s first broadcasting was on-aired as the name of WJKA which was earlier associated with the CBS network. Analog signals were transmitted on UHF frequency 26 which was generated from the WWAY tower in the area of Brunswick County with having ABC affiliation in the market.

Robinson and Katherine Everett which was the owner of Wilmington Telecasters was the founder of WJKA and operational activities were carried out from the 1926 Oleander Drive in the area of Wilmington. Wilmington was not having CBS affiliation in the market of the United States which was not even in numbers for the Eastern zone. After cable connection was start spreading in the community when WECT was getting CBS affiliation in the 1970s along with WBTW was providing B grade signals in the area of Florence, South Carolina.

WFLX Local News Live:

CBS association was not in line and successfully operated with WSFX due to the low budget and having no local programming format. After WJKA start its transmission, WRAL-TV was available on cable in the Wilmington area which shifted the association from ABC to the CBS network. This step has created a competition between big CBS affiliated television in the South of United States. WJKA was struggling to enhance its Nielsen ratings which are locally based and against WECT and WWAY channels. National Football Conference rights were gone for the CBS network which makes the KECY-TV and WJKA shift their affiliation to Fox in 1994. WSFX call signs were finalized on September 18 and technical facilities were decided to upgrade.
