WETM is originally virtual channel 18 with digitally transmitted through UHF frequency 23. It has an association with the NBC network and a transmission license is issued for the area of Elmira, New York in the United States. The northern side of Pennsylvania and Twin Tiers in the west is the coverage area for WETM transmission. Nexstar Media Group has the ownership and premises of broadcasting is based in downtown Elmira on East Water Street. The digital transmitter tower is constructed by the owner in Big Flats on Hawley Hill. On September 30, 1953, it came into the market of broadcasting by name of WECT-TV and has a working partner of El-Cor Television.
On May 26, 1954, the operational activities were suspended after a year of working on a trial basis. On September 23, 1954, El-Cor handed over the transmission license and was acquired by Newhouse Newspapers by the name of WSYE which has a semi-satellite of WSYR with having NBC association. The same facility and operational assets were used by the new owner.
A hurricane in the area of Elmira brought the transmitter tower down which cause WETM to went off in 1954. Newhouse decided to sold-out the entire broadcasting division included WSYR and WSYE and went under the possession of Times Mirror Company. Call signs were later changed to WSTM and WETM. NBC affiliated television from Wilmington has the call signs for the network. In 2004 Smith Broadcasting decided to sold-out WETM after Robert Smith died and Providence Equity Partners acquired entire broadcasting assets.

On December 3, 2012, Nexstar Broadcasting Group become the owner of WETM for the area of Elmira. A translator WSKG has the connection with WETM which was later shut down in 2003 and try to focus on W30AA due to a smaller number of viewers. It was later acquired by Clear Channel Communications and start transmission in September 2004 with the association of UPN and by name of WTTX which is low powered. WSKG decided to operate as satellite mode 30 by WSKA and Clear Communications suspended its low-powered techniques from their broadcasting system.
