WFXV is a Fox-affiliated television network that is operated as virtual channel 13 and tuned by digital UHF mode 34. The licensed transmission area is Utica, New York in the United States, and broadcasting servicing a range of Mohawk Valley beside Central Upstate of New York. Nexstar Media Group has the ownership rights and becomes the sister station of WPNY which is low-powered and has an affiliation with My Network TV.
Nexstar also operated WUTR which is ABC associated network under the common sales and services agreement with Mission Broadcasting which is the owner of channel 20. They all have common office facilities in Deerfield on Smith Hill Road which is the same place where the transmitter tower is situated.
Analog repeater W31BP was providing WFXV transmission in the area of Burlington which has a transmitter based on Clock Hill Road. On August 3, 2021, WFXV FOX 33 transmission license was canceled and surrendered to Federal Communications Commission. In 1982 analog transmission began after issuing the construction permit for the area of Utica with having call signs of WTUV.
The area was fully covered by WTVH in the area of Syracuse which was caused the rejection of CBS affiliation after the intention was shown from WTUV. On October 12, 1986, it was entered in broadcasting market for the first time ever with having a newly Fox association, and a few years later on February 1, 1990 call letters were changed to WFXV. The original studio facility was based on the Greenfield Road of Rome. Sinclair Broadcast Group acquired Sullivan Broadcasting along with WUPN and WFXV in 1996. Nexstar bought the station in 2003 from Quorum broadcasting owned by Dan Sullivan.
Viewership of WFXV:
On April 1, 2004, Mission broadcasting which was having a working partnership with Nexstar decided to buy WUTR associated with ABC network from Channel Communications. WUTR offices were being used by WFXV and WPNY for more stronger and steady transmission. The Bill Keeler Show was on-aired by WFXV from April 1, 2003, to 2005 which was later shifted to WKTV. Relocation of transmitter tower was filed to Federal Communications Commission from south of Utica to Skyline Drive in Clinton but it was later refused by FCC. On March 6, 2009, WFXV begin a digital-only transmitted station in the market.
