WGHP television is virtually based on channel 8 which is technically operated by UHF digital channel 31. On October 14, 1963, WGHP awarded the licensing transmission in the area which was owned by Southern Broadcast Group and WNAO along with residents of High Point. In the beginning, it was carrying ABC association with two other networks which are WFMY and WSJS. The original operational activities were carried out downtown of High Point on North Main Street inside of Sheraton Hotel.

Gulf Broadcasting decided to buy the WGHP in 1978 and was later acquired by Taft Broadcasting under a deal that was closed in 1984. Great American Broadcasting was constructed by Taft on October 12, 1987. Due to the bankruptcy in December 1993, Great American Broadcasting decided to change its construction model, and later entire broadcasting assets were put on sale. New World Communications decided to acquire WGHP along with WBRC, WDAF, and KSAZ. At the same time, New World bought Argyle television stations under the Federal Communications Commission seller list while stations were bought from the previous owner group.
Viewership of WGHP:
New World decided to sell WGHP AND WBRC to Fox network due to Federal Communications Commission rules about ownership conflicts but Fox was not able to acquire both televisions. On September 3, It gets Fox’s affiliation and purchasing of WGHP and WBRC was completed on January 17, 1996, and it became the first commercial television in the area of Piedmont Triad. WGHP decided to make some changes in its logo and graphic quality on September 10, 2007, under Fox’s supervision. WGHP was sold to Oak Hill Capital Partners on December 22, 2007, which were already acquired the stations from The New York Times Company.
