On May 3, 1953, WTVO’s first-ever transmission in the broadcasting market began and become the oldest UHF station in the northern part of Illinois. Its first official transmission in the market was on-aired in November 1978 and carried primary affiliation of NBC network in the specific broadcasting market. ABC programming was adopted by the station as secondary and shared with market-based WREX television station. In 1965 WCEE entered the market and carried CBS association with carrying NBC programming from the WTVO television network in designated areas.
