John Owens, a former employee:
On April 15, 2005, John Owens, a former WDIV channel employee, was shot dead in the lobby of the station by Epifanio Rivas Jr. Epifanio Rivas is a man with a history of harassing WDIV tv employees. Rivas was charged with attempted murder, while Owens was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. On 21 November 2006, Judge James Callahan sentenced Epifanio Rivas from 16 to 32 years in prison for the shooting. For firearms crimes, he was also sentenced to two years in prison.
