The founder of the station was the Megargee family which also owned Scranton Broadcasting along with the radio broadcasting unit of WGBI. Its previously operated technical facility was situated in the downtown Scranton on Prep High School and this place was utilized by the television station for many years.

A duopoly between signal interference in a single market was not accepted by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission and Grade B signal was generated in the broadcasting market of Lehigh Valley. CBS network group announced to bought the television station of WCAU.
