KALB-TV got the big three market-based network affiliations of NBC, CW+, and CBS and operated as virtual frequency 5 and digitally transmitted through UHF technology. The licensing area for its transmission is issued for Alexandria, Louisiana in the United States, and ownership of KALB is presently held by Gray Television. The main control room and studios are situated in the area of downtown Alexandria on Washington Street and the transmitter tower is based in Forest Hill.

KALB CBS 2 became the first television in the Alexandria region until KLAX and KLPA operational activities begin in 1983. On November 28, 1986 stereo broadcasting was activated from KLAB and a few years later Park Communications decided to buy and start a working partnership with Media General in 1997. It was only the first television in the west of the Mississippi River which holds by Media General until Spartan Communications was acquired in 2000. Digital signals of KALB were transmitted in the market in 2002 and are famously known as Newschannel 5 with having a new logo design.
