Market-based scenarios were forcing the KATC to get the NBC association but it took the affiliation from ABC. KLFY was CBS affiliated but limitations occurred during ABC transmission. ABC network was not capable to handle the broadcasting market as secondary status for existing networks. Grade B coverage was provided in most of the markets in Lake Charles which came from KPLC-TV and WBRZ. There was no other network in the market which was provided full coverage of transmission with ABC affiliation. In 1982 Loyola University New Orleans bought the channel from Acadian Television and later become the sister station for WWL-TV which was affiliated with the CBS network.

KATC Local News Live:

KATC kept using analog signals from its transmitter situated in the south of Crowley, Louisiana until the federal mandate was launched the date of digital transmission on June 12, 2009. KVHP was the Fox-affiliated channel in the area before KATC was only the first television station with having ABC affiliation until August 31, 2017. Most of the Baton Rouge region is covered by the KATC because of having healthy signals. On October 29, 2018, Cordillera decided to sell out most of its broadcasting assets including KATC to E.W. Scripps Company, and the channel became the Scripps first-ever television channel in the area of Louisiana.

KATC simulcast its first high-definition transmission on April 6, 2012, and start its news resources in a significant way. Marcelle Fontenot is a news anchor on KATC ABC 3 and she was the internee on channel 3 during 2001. Jim Hummel is also serving the channel as a news anchor and he has won many awards for his broadcasting experience. Good morning Acadiana is covering by Katie Lopez and she join the news team KATC in January 2015. Multimedia journalist and producer from ABC 3 is Eman Boyd and officially joined the channel in January 2020.
