Both networks have common studios and offices downtown of Bakersfield on Westwind Drive. And its transmitter tower is situated atop Breckenridge Mountain. On August 20, 1953, KBAK’s first-ever transmission activities were started in the market as KAFY-TV. The original founder is Sheldon Anderson and also has a KAFY radio station. It was having the first transmission studios in Bakersfield from Chester Avenue and become the oldest television in the area of Bakersfield.
Anderson decided to sold-out KBAK assets to Chronicle Publishing Company which was based in San Francisco. KAFY was having an association with DuMont at the beginning which was later changed to CBS network and started working in collaboration with KERO-TV which was serving ABC programming. In February 1954 along with the CBS association, channel 29 decided to change its call letters to current KBAK-TV. Reeves Telecom acquired the station from The Chronicle in 1960 and start providing its entire programming is color transmission as fully colored television of the area in 1967.
