On the top of the Franklin Mountains, the network transmitter is situated. As KROD-TV, it starts the first transmission on December 14, 1952. In the market area of El Paso, KDBC was the first television station which was founded by Dorrance Roderick. He also owns the El Paso Times newspaper and a radio station KROD. Newspaper and radio assets and studios are located on Wyoming Avenue.

KROD-TV has the second affiliation with ABC and its primary affiliation was with CBS in which KDBC remain with the affiliation of CBS the entire of its time. DuMont canceled the affiliation with KROD-TV after the suspension of channel transmission in August 1956. NTA Film Network got the affiliation with KROD in the late ’50s. In 1959, Trigg-Vaughn acquired the station from Roderick. In 1967, the network was sold again to the Doubleday Broadcasting Company and changed the channel call letters to KDBC-TV which shows the first alphabets of the company in the channel name.

In 1974, the Evening Post Publishing Company bought the network assets from Portal Communications. Network build a road to the transmitter location in El Paso near the South of Comanche Peak. With effective radiated power and 350-meter tower helps to start channel first transmission which is now performing as the backup of KDBC CBS 4 in the El Paso region. An investment company Merrill Lynch bought the station from United Broadcasting. Titan made an agreement with Communications Corporation of America which already owns the KTSM channel 9 for sales and administrative tasks along with KDBC-TV news operations. On April 23, 2013, Cunningham Broadcasting decided to acquire KDBC from Titan TV after the approval from Federal Communications Commission.
