On July 12, 1953, it begins the operational activity in official manners and become the oldest television in Idaho with the call signs of KIDO-TV. In the NBC network, a female owner Georgia Davidson was the founder of the network along with the radio broadcasting of KIDO. Later radio assets were decided to sell out in 1959 and KIDO TV remained with her. On February 1 call letters were changed to current KTVB NBC 7 by Georgia under her possession.

KIDO radio has a long-term relationship with NBC radio in that case KTVB has always been a primary NBC-associated network in the market. In November 1953, KBOI on-aired its first-ever transmission and both stations immediately adopt the secondary affiliation with DuMont, and the ABC association was shared between both broadcasting groups. Sesame Street was telecast without any commercial during morning transmission by KTVB until KAID signed on in December 1971. In La Grande, Oregon KTVB decided to build a satellite station for its better coverage and signal capacity to the viewers.

On December 6, 1964, KTVR entered the market as a semi-satellite of KTVB while local programing and prime night newscast are on-aired by the studio of La Grande at Adams Ave area. Due to the geographical time zone, KTVR was the better option in Pacific Time Zone because it served as a repeater channel of the Mountain Time zone. On August 31, 1976, KTVB NBC 7 was sold to Oregon Public Broadcasting and converted into a non-commercial station on February 1, 1977. Kings Broadcasting Company acquired the KTVB in 1979 along with KING-TV in Seattle and KGW-TV in Portland.
