Cox Communication was the source of WAFB CBS 9 in the area of Lafayette. As the second television station in Louisiana state and the first in Baton Rouge, WAFB begin broadcasting on April 19, 1953. MBS-affiliated radio stations WAFB and WAFB-FM were working partners. Channel 9 was originally brought by Louis S. Prejean and associates and later in 1956 sold out to the New Orlean-based Royal Street Corporation which also has WDSU-TV under the possession which was the first television network in Louisiana. Royal Street sold out the radio channels and its formats for AM and FM before launching in 1968. Locally based Guaranty Corporation bought the channel from Royal Street in 1964 and the transmission facility was moved the south of LSU campus from Zachary which brings the wide transmission range 90 miles across the areas.

WAFB broadcast its colored transmission service in 1965. Analog signals on frequency 28 were transferred to channel 9 on VHF technology during 1960.
