Federal Communications Commission was not granting permission to have the same letters for different areas while Selma and Montgomery were the different markets. In the beginning, it was having an affiliation with the ABC network and become the only primary ABC channel in the South of Alabama. WSFA-TV and WCOV were carrying NBC and CBS affiliation while ABC was serving off-hours transmission. In and out signals were generated by the channel technical team for WBRC in the field of Birmingham during ABC programming is available. The problem was indicating the channel ID was shifted to WSLA due to the small elevated transmitter tower which height was only 110 meters west of Selma. It was only captured the transmission signals to Dallas County.

Later in 1964 WKAB start producing CBS programming for one hour every week of its time slot transmission. Channel 8 was allocated to the area of Nashville after Federal Communications Commission decided to decrease miles separation due to signal interference. Selma was carrying a full-service television station that needs to be installed a highly powerful transmitter tower for the coverage range of the Montgomery area.
