WBGH construction permit was granted on November 10, 1993, from FCC, and call letters were issued by the name of W08DL which was taken from VHF frequency 8. WICZ-TV channel 40 which was having a long time NBC associated decided to shift on Fox network in different areas of the United States. Binghamton market was carrying three commercial television channels at that time and the NBC network was not in the market after WICZ’s affiliation with NBC will expired.
WBGH Local News Live:
A local marketing agreement was made by Time Warner Cable with WETM-TV for the area of Elmira until NBC affiliated channel came into the Binghamton market. Syndic laws were forcing Time Warner Cable to the sold-out advertisements and other programs which was on-aired by WETM in the market of Binghamton. On August 22, 1997, W08DL decided to change its call signs to currently WBGH and a few months later the owner of channel David Grant sold out WBGH to Smith Broadcasting which was already acquired by the WETM. A proposal was under consideration for making channel 8 to semi-satellite of WETM.
Viewership of WBGH:
Station newscast transmission was carried out after WBGH decided to separate its services from WETM. Smith Broadcasting decided to sold WBGH in 2000 to Ackerley Group which belongs to the area of Seattle, Washington, and start taking over the operational activities of WETM. Common operation facilities were being used for the WBGH and WIVT networks. Class A status was granted to WBGH after having up-gradation to the UHF channel 20 and call signs were changed to WBGH-CA. Clear Channel Communications and Ackerley decided to start joint venture activities on June 14, 2002.
