WECT NBC 6 News Wilmington NC

WECT transmitter tower is based in North Carolina on Winnabow. Charter Spectrum channel 7 is providing transmission services in standard and high-resolution video quality through Cable. On April 9, 1954, WECT begin its operational tasks in the broadcasting industry with the name of WMFD-TV. With having 610-meter elevated transmitter tower, WECT NBC 6 produces analog signals on VHF channel 6 in the area of White Lake. Digital Broadcasting was telecast in 2008 on the east of Mississippi.

Atlantic Telecasting Corporation was the first founder of the station and also has a WMFD radio channel under their possession. Later it was sold radio broadcasting assets and changes in television network call letters which is currently as WECT in 1958. WMFD-TV call signs are being used in Mansfield, Ohio which is working as separate and without affiliated television channel.

WECT Local News Live:

WECT NBC 6 was associated with all broadcasting networks NBC, DuMont, ABC, and CBS after its launching in the digital transmission market. DuMont association was suspended in 1956 and keeps carrying NBC as the primary affiliated network. In 1964 WWAY jumped in the local market and first area competitor of WECT. CBS network was carrying opera shows and NFL coverage while WWAY was associated with ABC which was the weaker network among all of them. In 1970 cable services were delivered in the Wilmington market.

There were several cable providers in the market which was offering WECT transmission from 1970 to the 1980s. Far West of the Wadesboro and North of Greenville was covered by the cable system and WECT transmission was widely spread to the Triangle market along with Southern Pines. News-Press & Gazette Company acquired WECT NBC 6 from Atlantic Telecasting in 1986 and later owner group sold its all broadcasting assets to New Vision television in 1993.
