It is a virtual channel 5 and UHF digital channel 22. It is affiliated with a CBS television station which licensed to Green Bay, Wisconsin United States of America. The station is working under the ownership of Nexstar Media Group. WFRV TV’s studios are located on the East side of Mason Street in Green Bay, and the location of its transmitter is north of Morrison. By using the cable, the station is founded on Charter Spectrum channel 6 and working in high definition on digital channel 1006.

The shows of WFRV CBS 5 is mostly related to crime, local update, sports and investigative stories, community news, and local sports events. It also focuses on traffic updates from Boston and nearby areas and weather and Strom updates. On election days, it provides special coverage and activities in Green Bay. In December 1960, Valley telecasting sold its WFRV TV to valley broadcasting company. Its local programming started from broadcast in color in the year 1965 making it the second station with that capability in the market. After two years, the station has taken a step to build a satellite in the upper peninsula.

In 1980, Orion Broadcasting reached a deal to merge with Cosmos broadcasting a subsidiary of Liberty Corporation. In 1981, Cosmos found a buyer Midwest radio-television which under the ownership of WCCO radio and television. After taking over, Midwest made $1 million in a major investment in new equipment, including news helicopters.

In April 2007, liberty media completed an exchange with CBS Corporation pursuant to which liberty media exchanged 7.6 million shares of CBS Class B common stock valued at $239 million for the subsidiary of CBS that held WFRV and WJMN approximately $170 million in cash.

WFRV under Nexstar:

On 7 April 2011, the Nexstar broadcasting group shared that it would take under the ownership of WFRV and WJMN from liberty media. The deal was approved by $20 million by FCC on June 28, 2011.

Programming and Schedule ABC WBAY:

As of September 2020, WFRV TV is one of the few American TV stations which does not carry any current day syndicated programming on weekdays, with their entire schedule outside a midafternoon hour block of Friends, being made up of local news and content.

Sports Programming:

From 2003 to 2011, WFRV carried Green bay packers pre-season games and related official team programming, with the station branding as “your official packer’s station”. Packers-related programming on WFRV has included Larry McCarran’s locker room, a Monday night program that featured WFRV sports director and former packer lineman, Larry McCarran.
