It was the combination of broadcasting and newspaper which was having Binghamton Press in the county. Publicity and advertisement were available in the newspaper after channel 40 construction activities were carried out. WBJA 34 appeared in the market when WINR was carrying association with NBC and some ABC programming was in the transmission slot. Stainless Inc which was the manufacturer of Broadcasting towers bought the WINR on July 30, 1970, from Gannett along with entire Binghamton broadcasting assets.
WICZ Local News Live:
On April 7, 1971, the sale deed was done and the call signs of channel 40 changed to WICZ-TV. The transmitter facility was shared with the WINR radio channel but later it was constructed by the new owner at an elevation height of 270 meters. Fox affiliations were taken by WICZ in November 1995 after decided to suspend NBC affiliation in the broadcasting market. This change helps to extend channel 40 programming and news transmission. Fox affiliation was already carried from WICZ in which the kid’s program was on-aired as secondary affiliation while NBC was serving daytime soap operas during transmission.
Viewership of WICZ:
Binghamton area was not fully covered in terms of signal capacity from WSYT and WOLF television networks. NBC affiliation got expired on April 4, 1996, with WICZ and this programming was broadcasting through cable on WETM in the Elmira region. Northwest Broadcasting decided to bought the WICZ and KTVZ in Oregon for the total amount of 17 million dollars from Stainless Inc.
