In the 1970’s the market of Augusta start growing bigger and bigger eventually and getting in the posting to support three affiliations of networks. There was no ABC affiliated channel was existing in Augusta’s area which can provide grade B signals and coverage. Besides this WIS TV in Columbia was the one NBC affiliated channel which was providing grade B coverage. When WAGT began operation in December 1968, prediction and suggestion was to get affiliated with NBC. At that time in Augusta areas, several viewers were out of UHF capable sets. So, The Dick Cavett Show and The Tonight Show keep airing from the WJBF and HRDW TV. IN 1974 WATU station which was affiliated by NBC returned to its transmission and WJBF was being forced to drop NBC programming for an unknown time period.

On September 26, 2011, WJBF ABC made an agreement with the Media General for taking over the operation and advertising sales department of MeTV which was previously known as RTV. Both stations WJBF and WAGT have a reputable presence in downtown areas and Media General moved WAGT into the expansion phase of WJBF. The news facility for the station was inaugurated in October 2011 because of the news constructed stations. The owner of WRDW TV Gray Television accused Media General of not doing the smooth transition of station personnel under the shared service agreement.

WJBF ABC 6 was providing gospel music on Sunday morning during 1954 and Parade of Quartets was the longest-running program on American television history. In the 1980’s NewsWatch 6 was launched from the Spartan Radiocasting and then WJBF and some other sister station changed their branding to NewsChannel and were acquired by Media General. The unique station logo 6 was brought back after Spartan bought the station and facilities in 1970. The arc logo which was used by most stations of Media Group become the WJBF logo in 2002.
