In 1957 Mel Wheeler bought WJHG NBC 7 after three years Gray Communications owned by James Harrison gray become the owner of the station decided to change its call letters to the WJHG-TV. Gray Communications also acquired the WALB-TV and WJHG become the second television under the possession of Gray Group. In Dothan, Alabama WTVY become the default associated with the CBS network which was also covered the area of Panama City. The channel 7 transmitter was technically situated in Panama City Market which has a covering a range to the Southeastern Wiregrass region.

In El Dorado, Arkansas area, WJHG decided to change its primary affiliation with KTVE until WDTM adopt the NBC affiliation in 1973, and the NBC association was adopted again from the WJHG network. Phipps Family sold the WJHG and WCTV in 1998 to Gray Communications. Federal Communications Commission agreed to keep both stations application which was submitted from Gray group and also bought the Benedek Broadcasting in 2002 including WTVY. This purchased gave the market access from Fort Walton Beach, Florida to Troy, Alabama for the signal coverage during transmission.
