WPDE ABC 15 call letters were taken from the slogan We’re People Dedicated to Excellence. WPDE was carrying ABC association from the beginning during ABC network was the smallest among all other major networks. ABC was signed on with WBTW before the arrival of WPDE in the market. WWAY was providing transmission services in the area of Wilmington as ABC scheduled for Grand Strand. NBC network was serving full coverage transmission by NBC network in Florence and there was no other ABC network that was offering western region of the market. The auditorium building was transformed into a channel facility that was located on South Cashua Drive.

WPDE operational activities were performed more than 22 years from the same facility. Richard Riley was the Florence Governor who inaugurated WPDE’s first studio offices in 1981. Diversified Communications which was based in Portland bought the WPDE from Eastern Carolinas Broadcasting in 1985. WPDE analog signals were pretty strong in most of the broadcasting market with having other UHF stations. Sinclair Broadcast Group acquired the WPDE-TV along with all broadcasting assets from Barrington on February 28, 2013.
