WXII-TV is a virtual channel 12. It is a television station affiliated with NBC. It is licensed from Winston Salem, North Carolina, and serves the Piedmont Triad in the Greensboro region. The station is owned by New York-based Hearst Communications and is part of a duopoly with Lexington-licensed CW subsidiary WCWG (Channel 20). In the UN a broadcast company Hearst Television is owned by Hearst Communications. This company is under the symbol of HTV traded its common stock on the New York Exchange from 1998 to mid-2009. This company owned TV and Radio and transmits local and national news. The two TV stations share studios on Winston-Salem Stadium Boulevard and broadcast teams in the hills of Sola Township in Stokes County. In most of the market, WXII-TV airs on Channel 11 through cable.

On June 12, 2009, WXII-TV turned off its analog signal as part of the FCC’s mandatory transition to digital television for all power. Before conversion, the radio station’s digital signal was kept on a UHF channel 31and by using receiver PSIP the NBC WXII-TV virtual channel was displayed as 12 on the digital TV. As part of the “SAFER Act,” WXII transmits its analog signals on the air temporarily to inform viewers of the transition to digital TV by a series of public service announcements proclaimed by the National TV and Broadcasting Association.
